In early 2016, My Phuong Company collaborated with Dong Nai Power Company to implement the Smart Grid Control Center project using Survalent SCADA software (Canada). This marked an important step in the modernization and development of a smart grid in Dong Nai Province, moving toward an integrated SCADA/DMS/OMS operation model.

The key requirement of the project was to completely replace the ABB SCADA system that had been in operation for over 10 years, in order to meet new technology standards and improve operational management efficiency. The Survalent SCADA system was designed to connect, monitor, and centrally control more than 25 substations (110kV) along with medium-voltage network devices, using international communication protocols IEC 60870-5-101 and IEC 60870-5-104.

The project was implemented on schedule and was officially put into operation in Q2 2016. Since its commissioning, the system has contributed to improving the reliability of power supply, reducing fault handling time, and optimizing dispatching and grid operation across Dong Nai Province.

Phase 1 – SCADA System Development (03/2015 – 06/2015):
From March 23 to March 29, 2015, MPCo conducted a technology transfer training program on the Survalent SCADA software for technical staff of Kon Tum Power Company. Immediately after the training, the Dispatching Department of PC Kon Tum independently developed and configured the SCADA system, aiming to integrate all reclosers on the province’s medium-voltage network into the Survalent SCADA system via standard communication protocols, including IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-104, and DNP3.0.
The SCADA system was officially accepted and commissioned in June 2015, significantly enhancing the monitoring and operational capabilities of Kon Tum’s medium-voltage power network.

Phase 2 – Development of the Remote Control Center (RCC) and SCADA Upgrade (09/2016 – 12/2016):
On September 25, 2016, EVNCPC approved and assigned PC Kon Tum to implement the Remote Control Center (RCC) and SCADA system project for Kon Tum Province in 2016. The RCC was developed based on the SCADA system established in 2015, with the objective of integrating 110kV substations, hydropower plants, and equipment on the medium-voltage network into the central control system.

On December 26, 2016, the Kon Tum Remote Control Center (RCC) was officially inaugurated and put into operation, enhancing the control and monitoring capabilities of the power grid. By 2018, the center had successfully integrated and remotely controlled 4 110kV substations, 5 hydropower plants, and more than 135 devices on the medium-voltage network, contributing to optimized operations, reduced fault handling time, and improved power supply reliability across the entire province.

Since early September 2017, My Phuong Company conducted surveys, assessed the current system status, and supported the inspection of Recloser devices and FXD–F6 control cabinets on the feeder lines involved in the Distribution Network Automation project of Tan Thuan Power Company.

By November 2017, after completing the inspection and assessment of Recloser equipment, My Phuong Company continued to implement training and configure the SCADA system for 31 feeder lines, fully meeting the technical requirements to participate in the FLISR (Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration) program – an automated system for fault detection, isolation, and restoration in the distribution network.

In early December 2017, My Phuong’s engineering team coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Power System Dispatch Center, Ho Chi Minh City Electrical Testing Company, and Tan Thuan Power Company to conduct simulation testing of more than 130 operating scenarios, ranging from basic to advanced levels, for the 31 automated feeder lines.

During the testing process, the FLISR functionality of the Survalent SCADA software accurately responded to all proposed scenarios, enhancing operational capability, reducing fault handling time, and improving power supply reliability.

At the beginning of 2018, evaluation, tuning, database completion, and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) development were standardized and implemented in a synchronized manner. By March 2018, the Distribution Network Automation System of Tan Thuan Power Company was officially completed and put into operation.

After more than four months of stable operation, the system has recorded positive results in fault detection, isolation, and restoration. It has contributed to improving power supply reliability, power quality, and customer service quality in the region.

During the period from 2016 to 2018, My Phuong Trading Co., Ltd. collaborated with Da Nang Power Company to implement the Control Center (CC) Construction project and integrate the SCADA system, aiming to enhance automation and modernize power grid operation across the city. Da Nang.

Phase 1 (2016):
From August 8 to August 12, 2016, My Phuong Company conducted training and technology transfer of the Survalent SCADA software for the technical staff of PC Da Nang. Immediately after the training course, the Dispatch Department of PC Da Nang, in coordination with My Phuong Company, proceeded with the construction of the Control Center and the implementation of SCADA connectivity with 110kV and 220kV substations, as well as medium-voltage network devices, using international standard communication protocols IEC 60870-5-101/104 and DNP3.0.

The Da Nang Power Control Center was commissioned and officially put into operation at the end of 2016. As of Q2 2018, the system had established SCADA connectivity and remote control for 11 substations (220kV–110kV), 12 RMUs, and more than 110 devices on the medium-voltage network, contributing to improved efficiency in dispatching, monitoring, and operation of the city’s power grid.

Phase 2 (2017–2018):
Based on the established Control Center, PC Da Nang continued to implement upgrades to the distribution network automation functions with the FLISR solution under the Distribution Network Automation Pilot Project.
By January 10, 2018, the FLISR system had been successfully tested and officially put into operation for two medium-voltage feeders, 471 and 472 Ngu Hanh Son 220, covering 02 feeders and 05 medium-voltage circuit breakers.

These feeders supply power to key areas connecting the city. Da Nang – Hoi An, where many critical loads are concentrated, including the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Ngu Hanh Son District Hospital, the Ngu Hanh Son District People’s Committee, and surrounding residential areas.

The commissioning of the FLISR system has significantly reduced outage duration, improved power supply reliability, and enhanced customer service quality.

The project is considered a significant milestone in the roadmap for developing and scaling smart grid models, contributing to the modernization of the power system and enhancing the operational capabilities of Da Nang Power Company.

In July 2017, My Phuong Company supplied six 110 kV capacitor banks manufactured by Eaton’s Cooper for the project “Installation of shunt capacitor banks on the Northern power transmission grid,” which is invested by EVNNPT and directly managed by PTC1.

The capacitor banks, manufactured by Eaton’s Cooper—an electrical equipment manufacturer with more than 80 years of experience—use lead-free EX-7L capacitor units with a rated voltage of 15 kV and a capacity of 565 kVAr. Each bank consists of a total of 132 units, corresponding to 74.5 MVAr per bank.

The commissioning of the capacitor bank contributes to maintaining transmission grid voltage in the Northern region within permissible limits, meeting the increasing power demand of critical loads. It also enhances the stability of power supply, reduces power and energy losses, and thereby improves the operational and business efficiency of Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Project Description:
In line with the general direction of the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) on developing technical standards for equipment and tools used in live-line maintenance of 22 kV distribution networks (Hotline), the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) implemented an investment project to equip its affiliated units with live-line maintenance tools.

In the initial phase, My Phuong Company supplied eight sets of live-line maintenance tools manufactured by Hubbell Power Systems, comprising 119 equipment items, for eight member Power Companies. The project was completed and handed over in January 2018, fully meeting technical and safety requirements for working on energized power networks.

In addition to supplying the equipment, My Phuong Company coordinated with technical experts from Hubbell to organize training sessions and user guidance for operational technical staff in early February 2018. This helped enhance Hotline work capabilities, reduce outage duration, and improve power supply reliability on the distribution network in the Northern region.

My Phuong Company supplied 50 sets of 22 kV medium-voltage reclosers manufactured by Eaton’s Cooper to Electricité du Cambodge (EDC), supporting the upgrading and modernization of the distribution power grid.

Of which, 30 NOVA27i reclosers are integrated with GSM-based remote control functionality, allowing monitoring and switching operations via smartphone, thereby enhancing the automation level of the power distribution network.

The solution helps Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) reduce fault response time, minimize outage duration, and improve power supply reliability across the distribution network.

In order to reduce power losses and improve the operational efficiency of the power grid, in 2017, EVNCPC implemented a project to install medium- and low-voltage capacitor banks for its affiliated Power Companies in the Central and Central Highlands regions.

Within package 17TBT-G66, the project includes the supply of complete medium-voltage capacitor bank equipment and a capacitor switching control system, using equipment from reputable manufacturers such as Hubbell Power Systems and Eaton’s Cooper.

The project was completed, handed over, and accepted on schedule in September 2017, contributing to improved power quality and enhanced supply reliability on the distribution network in the Central and Central Highlands regions.

To improve power supply reliability and reduce outage duration for customers, EVNCPC implemented a 22 kV live-line maintenance (Hotline) program on the distribution network.
My Phuong Company (MPCo) was selected as the supplier of 11 sets of genuine Hotline construction tool kits from Hubbell Power Systems for all member Power Companies, implemented in three phases.
In addition to supplying equipment, MPCo also coordinated the organization of advanced training courses, directly conducted by Hubbell (USA) experts, helping technical teams operate and maintain energized power networks safely, professionally, and efficiently.

In the fourth quarter of 2016, My Phuong Company collaborated with the Telecommunication and Information Technology Center – a subsidiary of the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) – to implement a project to build a Control Center (CC) for unmanned 110 kV substations at Khanh Hoa Power Joint Stock Company, using SCADA software from Survalent (Canada).

The project was implemented with the objective of centralizing the monitoring, control, and operation of the power grid. The Survalent SCADA system integrates all signals from unmanned 110 kV substations and medium-voltage network equipment through international standard communication protocols such as IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-104, and DNP3.0.

With close coordination among all participating parties, the project was implemented and completed on schedule, officially put into operation in the first quarter of 2017. By 2018, the Khanh Hoa Control Center had established SCADA connectivity and remote control for seven 110 kV substations and more than 100 medium-voltage grid devices, contributing to improved power supply reliability, optimized system operation, and the gradual modernization of the power grid in Khanh Hoa Province.
