    Project Information

    • Project Name: Capacitor Bank at 110 kV Quy Hop Substation
    • Investor: Northern High Voltage Power Network Company
    • Location: Quy Hop District, Nghe An Province
    • Implementation Period: 2014

To reduce power losses and improve voltage quality, the Northern High Voltage Power Network Company implemented the installation of medium-voltage capacitor banks at 110 kV substations under its management. Quy Hop 110 kV Substation is the first substation to be equipped with a 35 kV capacitor bank with a capacity of 5 MVAr.

The capacitor bank, manufactured by Eaton’s Cooper—an electrical equipment manufacturer with over 80 years of experience—uses lead-free EX-7L capacitor units, with a rated voltage of 14.127 kV and a capacity of 254 kVAr each, totaling 30 units (5 MVAr per bank).

The substation was commissioned in 1990 and is currently equipped with a 25 MVA transformer (110/38.5/11 kV), supplying power to 35 kV and 10 kV loads in Quy Hop, Quy Chau, and Que Phong districts.

The installation of the capacitor bank helps to:

. Provide reactive power support Stabilize voltage quality during peak hours Ensure safe, stable, and reliable operation of the power grid
